Curriculum Development for 2014-15 School Year

This year we have introduced a comprehensive English phonic, reading, writing and speaking program that we feel is a great improvement on past practice. With this program, we will discontinue the practice of having two separate book for the native and non-native speaker streams, and instead adapt one text to either level. Sound Waves and The English Workbook are now the core texts that span years 1 through 6, each geared to the particular level and year group (levels 1-6 on Sound Waves, and A-F The English Exercise Book). With only two books to purchase per academic year, student need only use the single book, and we pass on the savings to parents through decreased costs on matters (as well as conserving natural resources by using less raw materials).

These texts offer students a much broader range of topics, exercises and activities, and allow teachers great flexibility in deciding which course content is relevant to our students. We have gone to a great deal of trouble to adapt The English Workbook readings to the multiple levels, with each unit containing project work that allows students to choose one of 4 very unique projects that relate to the unit and appeal to students broader interests. The Sound Waves program has delivered measurable results in improving students abilities to decode and sound out the English sound system, which has lead to greater comprehension and interest in developing English language skills.
